Oxygen facials and products touting oxygen as a skin enhancer are hot right now. But does super-oxygenation make your skin healthier.
Oxygen Facials are becoming more and more popular especially in these days. Oxygen mask facials are a new addition to medical spas and salons. Oxygen facial has a lot of benefits including improves skin texture, enhances hydration levels, skin appears radiant and healthy, pampers skin with much needed oxygen etc. Dry, dull looking skin can add years to appearance and may not respond to your usual skincare or makeup routine. During an oxygen mask facial, the skin is treated with a variety of creams and cleansers before a fitted plastic mask is placed on the face.
The bacteria and germs that contribute to the proliferation of acne cannot live in an oxygen-rich environment.
Oxygen levels in the skin diminish considerably with age, smoking and exposure to air pollution. As skin cells begin to lose or weaken their regenerative properties, the surface skin loses its elasticity. Oxygen has incredible regenerative powers. Reduced elasticity contributes to the development of the wrinkles and creases associated with aging.
Facial massages reduce anxiety and elevate positive moods and an immediate change in appearance is common. Oxygen is responsible for the health and maintenance of every cell in the human body, including skin cells. Here is an effective remedy for oxygen facial.

winter 2016: 'Modern cocktail' of a collection is provocative

15-JW-Anderson-1-AFP.jpg
I can’t help but think Anderson’s often steadfast refusal to engage in the inspirational nuts and bolts of his design (What’s that fabric? Why that fur?) and willingness to wax lyrical on the state of modern society is because, simply, there isn’t an explanation behind what he chose. He saw a ruffle, liked it, stuck it on a skirt, thought other people would like it to. Simple as. And simply, you could imagine women wearing the stiff cotton dresses and lightly draped sweaters. For cocktails, and beyond. So why do we care about a hidden depth, especially if there really isn’t one?
There’s no danger of hidden depth with Emilia Wickstead, whose posh clothes for posh girls going to posh dos tick pretty basic boxes. Her style can be neatly summarised as Lee Radziwill in radzimir: clean sixties-tinged couture gowns, straightforward coats, skinny gowns. Occasionally they’re muddled, such as by Wickstead’s predilection for jumpsuits so pronounced it amounts to a fetish that, like “splooshing”, say, or “yiffing”, is entirely inexplicable unless likewise inclined. This time, she let godet-hemmed trousers get the better of her in a valiant attempt to challenge the ubiquity of the cigarette trouser. To paraphrase the words of Abba’s Agnetha Faltskog, whom many of the models wound up resembling, Wickstead was defeated, the slender leg won the war.
However, this was otherwise a sharp, decisive, well-executed show full of engaging ideas. Confrontation, perhaps, for Wickstead – quietly so – as it challenged the niche she’s been placed in as party-frock purveyor. Many of the ideas felt new – if not entirely, then certainly for Wickstead. Few felt prim or precious, which has marred previous outings. The tailoring was great in giant boxy shapes with strapped sleeves; her knitted dresses deserved special mention and merit. Long and lean and body-hugging, even when shown as a potentially lumpen combo of knit pinafore dress over sweater. A cable-knit version, fluted at the hem, was lovely. Very modern cocktail

Best Fashion

15-JW-Anderson-AFP.jpg
That’s a vital thing for designers to accomplish in the physically and technologically packed hypermarket that is contemporary fashion. A multitude of names are jostling for both attention and consumption. Anderson is in his early thirties, acutely aware of the demands of the new age. So he gives us shows animated with endless novelty and frivolity, easily consumed both visually and at sales tills. He talked about his outfits being “snapshots”, after an iPhone-welded audience spent his show doing little other than snapping, and said he wanted each observer to wind up “immersed in a look”.
Pulled close in to the models on a narrow catwalk, you did wind up buried, near physically, in the details of embroidered leather bodices, ruched leggings, fish-scale paillette shoes and munched-up ruffled skirts. It was tough to see them as an entity, but rather as abstracts perpetual motion. “It’s to get a sense of clothing,” mused Anderson grandly. “It’s fine if it’s not commercial.”
But it isn’t fine, and this was commercial, despite Anderson’s protestations. A designer has to sell their clothes to survive, and the current rejigging of catwalk calendars in favour of a model dubbed “see now, buy now” underlines the demands of commerce. Anderson’s snapshots trained your eye to focus on particular facets of the clothes: a studded handbag, sequinned shoes, shirt-dresses kicking into stiff saturn rings of coloured leather about the knee. Coupling those saturn rings with the wide-cut puritan collars and those ribbity frog flounces, and it felt like Anderson was trying – physically – to distance his wearer from her surroundings. Perhaps protectively, perhaps simply misanthropically. Perhaps also to allow a woman to exist in her own space, without intrusion, behind heavy-duty metal grommeting as armour. Anderson mentioned that he likes to be confrontational backstage: maybe he didn’t just mean in terms of cocktail attire.

JW Anderson autumn/winter 2016: 'Modern cocktail'

‘Modern cocktail” was how J W Anderson chose to describe his autumn/winter 2016 collection. Really? Does Anderson imagine women would wear his pile-ups of green neoprene frills and furbelows, puffed out like the vocal sacs of a fat, enraged toad, for a quiet soiree?  Or was he being provocative, combative and challenging?
I suspect the latter. Anderson enjoys getting people’s hackles up – making us, metaphorically, puff out and frown at his flying-saucer hems and zip-ribbed tunics. We also tut when Anderson pontificates about abstract themes rather than tell us why he decided to show ruffles and where the leaf studding his satin tops originated. I suspect some of that is for effect, to emphasise, perhaps, how ridiculous it is for us all to rush backstage and beg explanation of the whys and wherefores of puff sleeves and puffball skirts. But I also think Anderson is trying to grapple with ambitious ideas to keep his audience interested.

How to Apply Makeup to Achieve a Natural Look

When it comes to natural face makeup, the goal is to conceal any imperfections without looking like your face is entirely covered with product. Instead of using a full-coverage foundation, use only concealer on the areas of the skin where you have some redness, such as around the nose, and where you have shadows, such as under the eyes. Then conceal any blemishes or scars by dabbing a tiny amount of product on them, and then blend until it looks seamless.
Alternatively, if you wish to even out your skin tone and want a little more coverage, mix a few drops of your favorite foundation with your face moisturizer. This will give you some coverage, but it will sheer it out, giving a more natural look compared to the full-coverage look of foundation.
(Image: Lilly Wallace)

Step 2: Add a Subtle Flush

Adding a subtle flush on the cheeks gives a more healthy look to the face while still looking natural. Choose a blush color that looks like your natural flush after a jog, and opt for a cream texture instead of a powder, as powders tend to look more obvious on the skin.
Pat the blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards toward your upper cheekbones. Blend until you no longer see the edges of the color you apply. If you prefer, you may use a synthetic blush brush to apply the cream blush, and apply product little by little.

Step 3: Enhance Your Lashes

Skip eyeliner and bright eyeshadows, and focus instead on enhancing your lashes, which can make your eyes appear more awake and fresh. Focus on applying the mascara at the roots of the lashes, which will make them appear naturally thicker.
If your lashes are not naturally long and curly, use an eyelash curler and then apply one coat of mascara, preferable waterproof. Waterproof mascara formulas tend to hold the curl better than water-based mascaras, so your lashes stay curled all day long.
If you want to line your eyes make sure to keep the line thin and as close to the lash line as possible, which gives the appearance of thicker lashes without looking too made up.

Wonderfull Treat

In the morning, apply a treatment serum that contains antioxidants like vitamins C and E and a moisturizer that contains a humectant, like hyaluronic acid or glycerin.

Antioxidants fight free radicals, the molecules that damage the DNA in healthy skin cells, and have been shown to encourage collagen production. They also help mitigate the damage from UVA and UVB rays and reduce the appearance of dark spots, says Fusco. Look for a formula that contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and comes in an airtight pump or tube. For best results, use a mix of antioxidants, says Cheryl Karcher, MD, a New York City dermatologist; for instance, you could apply a serum that contains vitamins C and E in the A.M., and a lotion with an antioxidant such as selenium, zinc or green tea in the evening.

Hyaluronic and glycerin are two of the best ingredients for drawing moisture into the skin. Moisturizing is key because it helps support the skin barrier, which can be compromised by cold air, dry heat and other environmental insults. When the skin barrier is compromised, you're more vulnerable to irritation and infection, says Gohara. Keeping your skin well hydrated also temporarily plumps it up, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.
For nighttime, the gold standard treatment is a retinoid, the vitamin A derivative that's been shown to increase collagen production, regenerate elastin, unclog pores (reducing their appearance) and stimulate cell turnover (helping eliminate dark spots). Great news: There are many formulations of prescription retinoids and their over-the-counter versions, retinols, so it's much easier than it used to be to find one that doesn't irritate, says Fusco. If you've never tried one (or if you have sensitive skin), start with an over-the-counter retinol; it will be less potent than a prescription and not as likely to cause redness and flaking.  Use that twice a week and build up tolerance until you can use it every night. Then you can graduate to a cosmeceutical strength (just below prescription strength), says Fusco, following the same routine. (Fusco recommends If your skin tolerates that, you can move on to a prescription retinoid (such as ReFissa or a generic tretinoin).

What goes on first? Apply products according to their consistency, beginning with the thinnest. In the morning, start with the treatment serum, then follow it with a lotion or a cream moisturizer. For combination or oily skin, begin with a vitamin C serum (try Over that, layer a moisturizing lotion or gel (we like . For mature or very dry skin, start with a vitamin C or hyaluronic acid serum (such as ) and follow it with a lotion or cream containing glycerin. You can seal in the moisture by patting a face oil over that, says Fusco. is a good one.)

How to Take Care of Your Face, According

1. Step No. 1: Cleanse and Exfoliate
Cleansing, crucial to keeping your skin healthy, removes dirt, pollution and the dead skin cells that can make your complexion look dull. So you want to do it right. What are the most important things to look for in a cleanser? It should be a nonsoap formula, gentle, and—most important—suitable for your skin type, says Francesca Fusco, MD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. To find your skin type, wash your face with any nonsoap cleanser is a good choice). Wait about an hour. If your skin feels tight all over, you're dry: You'll want a creamy, milky or micellar no-rinse formula (try . If your skin feels tight on your cheeks but not on your forehead, nose and chin, you're combination: opt for a foaming cleanser (like. And if you face feels greasy or looks shiny, you've got an oily complexion: Consider an exfoliating cleanser (we like says Kavita Mariwalla, MD, clinical assistant professor of dermatology at SUNY, Stony Brook. Keep in mind that except for acne cleansers, which penetrate pores on contact, treatment cleansers with antiaging ingredients aren't effective: They're not on your skin long enough to make a difference, says Ranella Hirsch, MD, a Boston dermatologist.

"I tell my patients to cleanse differently in the morning and evening," says Fusco. On waking, a water rinse is enough for most complexions; if you're oily, use a nonsudsy or micellar cleanser. Before bed, when you want a more thorough cleansing, use your fingers to wash with lukewarm water and a dollop of cleanser in a circular motion. Add a little pressure to stimulate circulation, says Mona Gohara, MD, associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University. A cleansing brush isn't necessary, but can be helpful if you wear a lot of makeup—the oscillation of the brush can dislodge makeup and dirt from your pores, says Fusco. A brush also exfoliates, removing dead cells from the skin's surface, which diminishes dullness, encourages a healthy glow and helps treatments penetrate better, she says.  Hold the brush so it "floats" over the skin; scrubbing can cause irritation. Another way to exfoliate: Incorporate an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) into your routine. AHAs loosen the "glue" between skin cells, so the dead cells slough off more easily, revealing smoother skin that reflects light better and leaves you glowing. In the morning right after cleansing, try an AHA lotion or pad  if you're a newcomer;  for AHA vets). To avoid potential irritation, use the AHA only once or twice a week until you know how your skin reacts.

Foods That Help Your Hair Grow Faster

Negin Mirsalehi Long Hair

  • Presumptive signs of pregnancy refers to signs and symptoms that may resemble pregnancy signs and symptoms, but may in fact be caused by something else.
One of these presumptive signs of pregnancy is the absence of a period. While this is a sign of pregnancy, missing a period can also result from things such as sickness or stress in a woman's life, so this is not a reliable sign of suspected pregnancy.
Nausea or vomiting is also a presumptive sign of pregnancy, but those can occur from a number of other reasons too, such as the flu or food poisoning.
Fatigue is another presumptive sign. Fatigue can occur for a number of reasons, pregnancy related or not.
Frequent urination and breast tenderness are also presumptive signs of pregnancy, but frequent urination can occur simply if a woman happened to drink a large amount of fluid, or if a urinary tract infection is present. Breast tenderness is also a sign that a woman is getting her period, not just of pregnancy.

Probable

  • Probable signs of pregnancy are signs that indicate pregnancy the majority of the time. However, there is still the chance they can be false or caused by something other than pregnancy, like presumptive signs.
A positive pregnancy test is a probable sign of pregnancy. However, in some instances, pregnancy tests can give off false positives for a variety of reasons, such as the urine being too diluted when the test is taken, or the instructions not being followed completely.
An enlarged abdomen is another probable sign of pregnancy, but this can also occur from bloating during menstruation or a slight weight gain.

Positive

  • Positive signs of pregnancy are signs that cannot, under any circumstances, be mistaken for other conditions, and are evidence that pregnancy has occurred.
These signs include fetal heart sounds by a Doppler in the doctor's office, ultrasound detection of the fetus, or the movement of the fetus felt by a doctor. These signs cannot be brought on by any other condition. There is no mistaking or "faking" the sound of a fetal heartbeat, or seeing a fetus on an ultrasound screen.
    • Feel your breasts to see for swollen, tender or slightly larger than normal. When you become pregnant your breasts begin the process for producing milk. You may also notice your nipples are slightly darker in color.
    • Notice if you're feeling nauseous or vomiting in the morning or throughout the day. While common starting at the fourth week of pregnancy, some women are feeling morning sickness as early as two weeks after conception. Although named morning sickness, nausea and vomiting can occur any time during the day as a symptom of pregnancy.
    • See if you're feeling unusually tired and wanting to take a nap during the day. Your body may be sluggish due to the hormonal changes taking place.
    • Pay attention to the taste of foods and smells. If you're finding you no longer like the taste and smells of your favorite foods or have out of the ordinary cravings, this could be a sign as well.
    • Notice if spotting occurs. A tiny amount of bleeding may happen during implantation where the embryo attaches to the uterine wall.
    • Pay attention if you're running to the bathroom more often. Frequent urination at the beginning of pregnancy is due to hormonal fluctuations.

Your Simple Guide to Root Cover Ups

Root Cover Ups

When it comes to hair, there are few things more frustrating than off-color roots. Within weeks of leaving the salon basking in the joy that is getting a killer color, you’re standing in front of the mirror, grappling with the fact that your new growth is suddenly the star of your once-fantastic hair story. Of course, this could be prevented by upping the frequency of your salon visits, but who wants to do that to their budget? Plus, to avoid damage, you should let your hair grow at least a half an inch before processing it. Your solution may be the beauty miracle workers known as root cover ups. Available in sprays, powders, and even sharpie-like varieties, they discreetly cover grays and extend the life of your hair color. Sounds good, right? Keep reading to find the one that’s right for you.
Compact Powder
This is what you grab when you’re looking to wear a deep part and your roots are looking like a hot mess. Applied with a brush, compact powders such as Color Wow Root Cover Up ($35, ulta.com) adhere to your strands without drying them out. In addition to working wonders on parts, they’re great for touching up the roots around your temples.
Lose PowderFor extensive coverage, consider one of these. In addition to camouflaging roots, they create the illusion of thicker hair and can be used to hide bald spots. Jonathan Product Awake Color Root Touch Up ($19, jonathanproduct.com) has the added benefit of working like a dry shampoo.
Hair MarkersProducts like the ColorMetricts TouchBack ($30, ulta.com) are ideal for quick touch ups. You essentially color pesky roots throughout the hair and use a special comb attachment when covering your hairline (this helps keeps the temporary dye off of your skin).
SpraysArguably the most popular type of cover up on the market, most sprays are just as effective on a few grays as they are on larger sections of hair. Application can be tricky, though; accidentally spraying your bathroom wall is a reasonable fear. Our preferred method it to pull hair taut and hold the bottle about six inches away from hair. Both L’Oreal Paris Root Cover Up ($10, target.com) and EverPro Gray Away  get the job done beautifully.

Really Works For Crow’s Feet, Dark Circles

What to do for bright, wide-awake eyes

There are three causes of dark circles, says Dr. Hevia. “Some people have very thin skin,” he explains, “so you see the circulation of the blood vessels underneath.” Others actually have hyperpigmentation under the eyes, which means they have more melanin concentrated there than in other areas of the face. A third type is the “shadow effect” which occurs when a person has a natural hollow under the eye, causing light to reflect in a way that creates a dusky look there. Many people have two or three of these issues at the same time.
What you can do: Since only one of the three causes of dark circles is on the skin’s surface, topical creams are really only effective for hyperpigmentation, Dr. Hevia explains. Look for products that include Vitamin C, the lightening agent hydroquinone, and non-hydroquinone lightening ingredients such as kojic acid and arbutin. Murad Lighten and Brighten Eye Treatment contains 1.5% hydroquinone that’s safe to use under the eyes. Vichy ProEVEN Daily Eye Corrector ) targets dark circles and spots with Ceramide Bright, a non-hydroquinone ingredient that regulates melanin and also moisturizes.
When the derm can do: If you have one of the other two types — circulatory or shadows — hyaluronic acid gel fillers, such as Juvéderm, are your best bet. “Fillers do a wonderful job of improving the way the light bounces off the skin under the eye to take away that shadowing effect,” says Dr. Hevia.
As we age, the skin around our eyes gets thinner, which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. Dermatologists distinguish between crow’s feet, the “squint lines” around the eyes’ outer corners, and the crepey fine lines on the upper and lower eyelids.
What you can do: For fine lines, “You want to use creams and lotions that are very hydrating,” says Dr. Hevia. “The skin around our eyes is the thinnest skin we have on our face,” he explains, so it loses moisture quicker than other areas. Look for creams with hyaluronic acid: “It’s a water-attracting gel that works beautifully in eye creams to help to bring a plumpness back to the skin to minimize wrinkles.” Try Hevia Skin Science Day & Night Eye Complex, which features hyaluronic acid and antioxidant red mangrove extract to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Rich in antioxidants, peptides and moisturizing ingredients, Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle Correcting Eye Creamreduced eye area “smile lines” by 54% in test subjects.
What the derm can do: For crow’s feet and lines on the high cheekbone area, Dr. Hevia recommends injectables such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin to reduce the action of the muscle around the eye that creates squinting. “Botox works great for the crow’s feet that are coming off the corners of your eye,” he says, but for lines under the eye or near the inner corners, hyaluronic acid fillers are a better bet.

Under-Eye Bags

We all have pads under our eyes that contain fat, says Dr. Hevia. “Genetic factors and aging make it so that over time, those pads actually increase in fat.” Allergies, salty foods and crying can also cause temporary puffiness around the eyes.
What you can do: “Most of the topical remedies for swelling under the eyes have a brief time effect,” Dr. Hevia says. “The truth of the matter is it’s only going to help for maybe 20 minutes, 30 minutes after application.” If you wake up with puffy eyes, massaging the area with the cool, metal-tipped applicator in Lancôme Génifique Eye Light-Pearl concentrate can provide temporary relief.
What the derm can do: It may seem counterintuitive, but injectable fillers can actually help under-eye bags look deflated. “Fillers work beautifully under the fat pads, because you’re not filling the pad, you’re filling the circle under the pad,” Dr. Hevia explains. “It will totally change the way the light’s bouncing, and those pads won’t look nearly as bulging or big.” Surgery is another option; a lower blepharoplasty removes fat from the under-eye area.

Finally, The Most Important Under-Eye Tip Of All

What’s just as important as any eye cream? Sunscreen. “Most women don’t take the time to really apply it carefully in the dark area, and it’s amazing how much that can really help for patients with dark under eyes,” Dr. Hevia says. Protect your eye area like you do your face, with SPF every day, and you’ll see fewer fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles over time.

removal of acrylic nails.

Now fill the bowl with the acetone solution up to the level that it will cover all your nails. Dip your fingers now in the acetone solution and wait for twenty minutes to soak them. With the passage of time the grip of your acrylic nails will be loosen and they will be dissolved in the solution eventually. Take your fingers out of the solution. With the help of cotton ball or towel rub your fingers as to completely remove the acrylic nails. If any acrylic nail still remains, then dip it for five minutes more.
When you are all done with the removal of acrylic nails, wash out your hands with water and soap carefully to remove acetone and hand cream. Wait for your nails to dry. When they are dried use hand cream on the sides of skin and nail polisher cream on your hands. It will give the natural shine to your nails finally. By following the above method described, you can not only save time but also the money of visiting a salon.
Precautions While removing Acrylic nails:
  • While removing your acrylic nails, the acetone solution used must not be placed in plastic rather glass material should be used. The reason behind is, that it will react and it would be dangerous to use then.
  • Instead of buying acetone you can also buy acrylic nail remover kit from the market. The kit can easily be obtained from the drugstore. The kit has been developed for your ease. Use it whenever you need.
  • Acetone catches fire easily, it is highly flammable. So while using, keep it away from the heat sources. Use it carefully.
  • Don’t rush in removing nails quickly, have patience and remove them slowly. Because it takes time in removing otherwise you will harm yourself with acetone solution.
  • Sometimes if there is a gap between your natural and acrylic nail, it may cause you infection in nails. If you feel some sort of pain then better consult your physician.

Things to Try to Make Your Hair Air Dry

ImaxTree
There are a few reasons why we’ve adopted less frequent hair washing habits in favor of a dry shampoo-heavy routine, and a not insignificant one is how long it takes for freshly washed hair to dry of its own accord. Sure, there are a wealth of products made for hastening the blow-drying process, but whether you’re an air dryer by nature or are making an effort to minimize heat damage, air drying requires a level of commitment (and amount of time) that we don’t always have. Rather than reach for the blowdryer with our tails between our legs, try these four tips for how to make hair dry faster.
Gently wring out your hair before you towel dry.
Getting as much water out of your hair as you can before leaving it to air dry is key. When you’re just out of the shower and your hair is still soaking wet, use your fingers to separate it into large sections and move your hands from the top of the hair to the ends of each section, squeezing as you go, to ease water out of the hair without rubbing.
Get a new towel—and make sure it’s absorbent.
The towel you’re using to absorb the bulk of remaining water out of your hair could just not be cutting it anymore. Certain fabrics are more absorbent than others, and manmade microfiber tops off that list—and it’s more affordable than most other linens, too. If you have especially long hair,  Twist Microfiber Super Absorbent Hair Towel can’t be beat. The twist and loop system holds hair in place while the fabric absorbs water from the hair—genius.
Use a brush with microfiber.
We don’t know who came up with the idea behind the Goody  Paddle Brush with Microfiber Bristles, but they deserve some serious accolades. The bristles of the brush absorb water as you run it through your damp hair, so it essentially serves the purpose of both a detangling brush and a towel. Needless to say, it makes a major difference on freshly washed hair.
Add alcohol.
We don’t advise using alcohol-based products to hasten drying every day—because they can be so, well, drying—but when combined with alcohol, water on the surface of the hair evaporates quicker than it would on its own. Misting wet hair with a touch of a lightweight hairspray or a setting spray that contains alcohol will help to zap the moisture out of hair in a pinch.

Tricks To Prevent Split Ends

Split_Ends

From going red to trying a perm, there isn’t much I won’t try with my hair. Except cut it, that is. But long hair poses one big problem: split ends are common and, sadly, unavoidable. However, there are some simple changes you can make to your hair routine to prevent some of them.
Change The Way You Shampoo
When applying shampoo and conditioner, concentrate the products on the ends to strengthen the hair shaft. Also opt for strengthening shampoos and conditioners, like Nexxus ProMend Split End Treatment Daily Shampoo  and ProMend Split End Binding Daily Conditioner. The shampoo strengthens strands while the conditioner binds split ends together to lessen the appearance of breakage. Another trick: rinse with cool water to seal the hair’s outer layer to strengthen.
Brush Gently
“Brush hair on a daily basis in order to distribute the natural oils evenly threw out the hair, from scalp to ends,” says Gerard Caruso, Artistic Director of RUSK. Brushing your hair when wet can cause breakage if you’re not careful. Make sure to detangle strands with a wide-tooth comb. Apply a detangling spray, such as Paul Mitchell Lite Detangler ($10, paulmitchell.com) for manageability, plus added volume and shine. For color treated hair, I love Color Proof PureRelease Instant Detangle ($21.95, colorproof.com), a vegan leave-in spray that also protects against heat damage. “When removing tangles gently brush  hair from bottom  to the top , in order not to create any  Static or Frizz which can cause breakage,” Caruso recommends.
Hide Breakage With Oil
Frizz and flyaways make breakage look more prominent. Hair oils applied throughout strands or even just at the ends smooth out breaks and create a more even-looking finish. “Work with these argan oil based products, such as RUSK Being Sexy Argan Oil ($12, rusk1.com), from the mid shaft to the ends, that is the area where most breakage, and spit ends occur. To prevent oil residue, pour a dollop into your palm and dab on fingertips.
Heat Style Less Often
Over-styling with curling irons and straighteners is the main cause of split ends. To protect hair from heat, apply a leave-in conditioner, such as Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-In Conditioner Stocked with keratin proteins, the conditioner coats the hair to seal breaks. When blow drying, aim the nozzle at the roots and the mid-shaft. Because the tips of hair burn more easily, let them air dry.

How to Curl Your Hair Without Heat

how to do rag curls

There’s nothing quite like a head of gorgeous, bouncy curls—but struggling with hot tools, damaging our hair in the process? No thank you. So what’s a girl dreaming of a voluminous curl cloud to do? Turn to heat-free curling methods, of course! There are lots of ways to get beautiful, easy curls without heat, even if your hair is normally stick-straight—plus they’re ideal for doing on a lazy evening before bed so you can wake up with curly hair the next morning.
And because these techniques are better when you actually see them in action, we’ve rounded up some amazing, easy-to-follow video tutorials for you! Here are the very best ways to get curls without heat.
Start with damp hair. Find something to turn into rags, such as an old T-shirt, and cut it up into thin strips. Take one small section of hair at a time—you can make the strips of hair bigger or smaller depending on how large you want the curls to be, but too much hair makes the process less effective. Starting at the ends, roll each section of hair around a rag strip all the way up to your scalp—the above video by Brittani Louise shows this process perfectly. Tie the ends of the rag together tightly to hold the hair against your scalp, and then start to roll up the next piece of hair. This is fairly comfortable to sleep in because the rags are soft. The next morning simply untie each rag for soft, bouncy curls. You can add hairspray for hold or brush the curls out for gentle waves.
Bonus: If your hair is fine, or you want very small spiral curls, you can use paper towels or even toilet paper strips instead of fabric!
Most of us have slept with our damp hair in braids in order to wake up with wavy hair the next morning. You probably won’t get much more than a few gentle waves if you just do one big braid, though. Instead, use multiple plaits for multi-faceted waves. Work some mousse through your hair, part it in two halves, then plait each section into a French braid, making sure to start as close the scalp as you can. As the hair dries, it will take on the waves
These are a great option if you want giant, defined curls without heat. If you were alive in the 90s, you definitely remember these bendable foam rods—fortunately, they’re a lot easier to use now than they were when we were in high school. We suggest using a variety of different sized rods to get some nice variation in your curls. Take dry hair (or hair that has some setting lotion or mousse in it for added hold) one strip at a time, and roll it around the rod going up to your scalp. Then you can just bend the ends of the rod to keep the hair in place, or make the rod really twisty for extra curl. You will look like Medusa at the end of it, and you probably won’t get much sleep because they’re not comfortable to sleep on. The next morning, add a generous amount of hairspray while you unroll each rod and then brush the curls out with your fingers or a brush to soften them a little for big, romantic curls.
You may have seen this trick on Pinterest and been skeptical because of how easy it looks, but it really does work to get soft waves and gentle curls. Before bed, get a stretchy, wide headband (or  bandanna, as in Vivian’s hair styling video above) and a hair clip. Add some mousse to damp hair, then put the headband on so that it sits across your forehead. Take one strip of hair at a time (about an inch in width) and wrap each strip around the headband, going under and over until you get to the end of the strip of hair. Start at the front of your hair and work your way back. It also helps to twist each strand before weaving it around the headband. Then you can keep the hair in place overnight by pinning it down with bobby pins and, in the back, a hair clip. In the morning, take out the bobby pins and hair clip and remove the curls gently from the headband. Be sure to add hairspray!
This protective style is a simple way to get defined curls overnight, whether you have natural or relaxed hair, and all you need is bobby pins. All you have to do is divide your damp hair up into sections, add and roll each section around two fingers going up towards your scalp. Once you get to the top of your head, pin the twisted coil of hair against your scalp with a bobby pin. Repeat until all of your hair is pinned up. It’s up to you how big you want each section of hair to be; try doing different sized strips of hair to get some variety in the curl size, but be aware that the bigger each strip is, the looser the curl will be. The next morning, unpin each bun and run your fingers through each curl to loosen them a little before applying hairspray for hold.
Also known as foam rollers, these are similar to flexi rods although they might require a little more of a learning curve at first if you’ve never used them. You may find them slightly more comfortable to sleep in than flexi rods, at least—they’re bulky but soft. Simply put some mousse in your damp hair and then divide your hair into sections that will fit it into each roller. Roll each section up into the roller until you get to the top of your head and then clip it in place (each roller has a clip). In the morning, remove the rollers and gently comb the curls out with your fingers before adding hairspray. You’ll have bouncy, retro curls (plus you get to feel like a Mad Men extra the night before while you walk around with rollers in and a silk robe on).
